Blackberry Settings

This page explains how to connect a Blackberry device to eduroam.

  1. From the Applications screen, select Set up Wi-Fi.
  2. Choose Scan For Networks.
  3. From the list, select eduroam.
  4. Select PEAP as the Security Type.
  5. If you are a member of staff, enter your University username followed by @reading.ac.uk in the Username box (e.g. ab123456@reading.ac.uk).
  6. If you are a student, enter your University username followed by @student.reading.ac.uk in the Username box (e.g. ab123456@student.reading.ac.uk).<
  7. Enter your University password where requested.
  8. Choose AddTrust External CA Root as the CA Certificate.
  9. Select EAP-MS-CHAP v2 as the Inner link security.
  10. Enter radius.auth.reading.ac.uk as the Server subject.
  11. Ensure Automatically obtain IP address and DNS is ticked.
  12. Ensure Allow inter-access point handover is ticked.
  13. Press Connect.
  14. You should be told "Connection Successful!". Select Yes to save this Wi-Fi network as a profile.
  15. Press Next then Finish.

Your Blackberry should automatically try to connect to eduroam in the future.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot connect, check that:

  • You are at a location with good signal strength.
  • You have remembered to add @reading.ac.uk to the end of your username.
  • You are typing your University password correctly.

These settings will only work if you have a University of Reading username - if you are from a different organisation, you will need to refer to your home organisation for the correct instructions.
