Windows Mobile / CE Settings

This page explains how to connect a device running Windows Mobile or CE to eduroam. Separate instructions are available for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7 devices.

These instructions should work on Windows Mobile / CE 6 and newer Windows Mobile / CE 5 devices.
Windows Mobile / CE 5 builds earlier than 15096 are unable to connect to eduroam. To find out which version of Windows Mobile / CE 5 you are using, select Start > Settings > System > About, then look at the first part of the build code.

Configure Wi-Fi settings

  1. Ensure the Wi-Fi function on your device is switched on and airplane or flight mode is switched off.
  2. Press the Start menu, then choose Settings.
  3. Select the Connections tab, then Network Cards.
  4. A list of available wireless networks should appear. Tap and hold eduroam, then press Connect on the menu.
  5. In the Connects to list, select The Internet.
  6. On the Network key tab, select WPA2 for Authentication and AES for Data Encryption.
  7. Change to the 802.1x tab and set the EAP type to PEAP.
  8. Press OK. If you get a "...requires personal certificate" warning, press OK again.
  9. Wait for the Network Log On information window to appear.
  10. If you are a member of staff, in the appropriate boxes, enter your University username with @reading.ac.uk appended (e.g. ab123456@reading.ac.uk), and your University password.
  11. If you are a student, in the appropriate boxes, enter your your University username with @student.reading.ac.uk appended (e.g. ab123456@student.reading.ac.uk), and your University password.
  12. Leave the Domain box blank, and press OK.
  13. Your device should now connect to the network.

Troubleshooting

If you cannot connect, check that:

  • You are at a location with good signal strength.
  • If you are a member of staff, you have remembered to add @reading.ac.uk to the end of your username.
  • If you are a student, you have remembered to add @student.reading.ac.uk to the end of your username.
  • You are typing your University password correctly.

These settings will only work if you have a University of Reading username - if you are from a different organisation, you will need to refer to your home organisation for the correct instructions.
